When a harpy crashes to the ground near where Anna Youngson is hunting, her curiosity gets the better of her. The creature is injured and distraught but quite capable of talking and being civil. Of all the stories of the demon birds she had heard around town, harpies were hell bent on stealing the healthiest sheep from the flock and were the cause of anything missing or lost. Gawn Pyrefeather is a black duelist, considered to be the deadliest in the skies among the floating rocks above the land in which they live. When he is challenged by a female harpy to fight another male in an unofficial match so that he could court her, he accepts to protect his honor. Failure meant disgrace upon his family. During the fight, the male managed to claw at his face, slicing his eye. Gawn fell blindly to the ground below, only to be found by a beautiful human woman who will risk everything so that he can fly once more to the heavens.
